"It's better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all"

Is it? As one who has been in stunningly healthy relationships to indescribably painful ones, I’m just not so sure anymore. It seems to me the path of least resistance is also unclear to many as evidenced by the increasing age at which people get married and larger groups of single people claiming to be living happily. Is it so bad to never have loved? I know it’s counter-intuitive, but if you can be happy, why not?

I guess what I’m saying is that in most societies we have been bred to grow up, get married, and have kids because falling in love and having the white picket fence is what we all aspire to have. Yet, maybe those who have been thru a trying divorce or heart wrenching breakup actually feel that the fleeting time in which they experienced this love was not worth the follow up pain. I’m not sure if Lord Tennyson from whose poem below this saying originates had ever been thru a bad break up?!

Alfred Lord Tennyson's poem In Memoriam:27, 1850:
“I hold it true, whate'er befall;
I feel it, when I sorrow most;
'Tis better to have loved and lost
Than never to have loved at all.” >>>Read more

Break up texts - "Srsly, U R gettin annoying"

Ok, I'm not entirely sure if these are 'quotes', but they may be in the new era we live in. Text messaging is the new medium of instant access communication. Some say texting is just more convenient, however, I think it's just a little too convenient. Living in a big city, people are taking advantage of this new socially acceptable medium to 'talk'. Guess, what, it only takes five minutes to pick up a phone and call someone. Not even, you can make a quick call in less than 20 seconds.

All that being said, without this new texting phenomena, I wouldn't be able to contribute these gems I've come across recently. Here is a list of the top 5 break up quote sent by...you got it...text! >>>Read more

Colorful Quotes from Hockey and other sports

You can read them below too. These are some gems I've read over the years - I like to think of them as written Sports Bloopers!

Stu Grimson, Chicago Blackhawks left wing, explaining why he keeps a color photo of himself above his locker: "That's so when I forget how to spell my name, I can still find my clothes."

Oiler coach Phillips: When asked by Bob Costas why he takes his wife on all the road trips, Phillips responded, "Because she is too ugly to kiss goodbye."

New Orleans Saint George Rogers when asked about the upcoming season: "I want to rush for 1,000 or 1,500 yards, whichever comes first." >>>Read more

Careful With Your Quote

Most of us have heard or used the phrase:

"Play it again, Sam" - Julius Epstein, movie Casablanca

This is one of the most misquoted phrases from a film in history. I even had to double check that this wasn't in the film (was watching it anyway!) before writing this blog. It's definitely not in the film at any point. I wonder if this is similar to selective recollection, selective listening, or just plain a plain fantasy land that we all live in. I have pointed disagreements with my brother about childhood memories that I'm generally willing to bet my life that my memory serves me correct. Often my mom will intervene and let us know we were both wrong! How does our perception affect our memory and why are so completely convinced we have heard and seen things that simply never happened? I will give you my theories, but first a few more famous misquotes... >>>Read more
